University: Imperial College London
One of the most striking things about the Hiscox internship program was the level of responsibility I was given from the outset. This, coupled with the helpfulness and friendliness of all
my colleagues, aided me in gaining a good understanding of not only the role of an actuary, but how it ties in to the many facets of the company.
I particularly enjoyed the strong bond I formed with the other interns, as well as the challenge of producing our own group project. The dedicated skills training days were extremely beneficial
to all aspects of my professional development.
“The Hiscox internship program in a nutshell - Real work, with real people, for real results.”
Internship: Art & Private Client Underwriting
I thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Hiscox over the Summer. I was given challenging and real work to deal with. Not only this, but I was invited to various broker meetings and social
events, helping me to understand the business outside the office. These were very interesting and I felt I learnt a lot from talking to different people within the field.
My knowledge of Hiscox and specialised insurance extensively improved over the eight week period. I now feel confident in applying for jobs in this industry in the future.
Internship: Catastrophe Modelling
My internship was based in the Catastrophe Modelling team learning how Hiscox manages risk. During the summer I carried out data analysis using the mathematics that I learnt at university
and I was given the opportunity to present my work to my colleagues.
I was given a mentor who provided me with support and I learnt about the business and industry through networking with the other Interns, Graduates and senior members of the business. I
also spent time in Lloyd’s of London and received training in Excel and presentation skills. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hiscox; I learnt a great deal and would recommend the
internship programme to those curious to learn more.
